Boutique-style bedrooms have long been in vogue but these days we’re now seeing that same sense of style displayed in the world of hotel bathroom design.
We’ve taken a tour of some of the luxury hotels on Mauritius to bring you inspiration and insight into the artistry and individuality on offer.
Have a focal point
Most luxury hotel bathrooms have at least one wow-factor element, whether it’s a huge walk-in rainshower, giant freestanding bath, beautiful tiled walls, or something unexpected like full height windows or a plump chaise longue.
We might not have the space to create quite the same impression at home, but it’s worth following the single ‘focal point’ rule to really make an impact.
Create symmetry with double sinks
If space allows, having two separate sinks not only provides great convenience – with the added bonus of potential extra storage underneath – but also the chance to play around with symmetry – one of the defining principles of classic interior design.
This look, if you get it right, is all about creating balance and harmony, and with double sinks as a starting point, it’s an easy bathroom scheme to achieve – just add repeated mirrors, lighting and accessories. Check out the beautiful Grand Suites at St. Regis Mauritius for a stylish example.
Go for a minimal white colour palette
If there’s one thing many hotels do brilliantly – that’s often really hard to replicate at home – it’s minimalism. But if this is a look you hanker after, the bathroom is often the easiest place to start, as many of us already have a simple white suite to begin with.
The key is to keep things pure, with neutrally painted or tiled walls and floors, sparklingly clean and clear surfaces, and all clutter hidden from view. For inspiration, pay attention to the amazing white-on-white bathrooms at LUX* Belle Mare.
