China’s 20-year-old Olympic hopeful, Li Haotong, has confirmed he will be competing next month at the Air Mauritius-sponsored AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open 2016, the only event tri-sanctioned by The European Tour, Asian Tour and Sunshine Tour.
The 20-year old will make his debut after arriving with a bang on the global golf scene last November as he tied for seventh at the $8.5 million WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai. The local hero played the final round with then-World No. 1 Jordan Spieth and secured the best-ever finish by a Chinese in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event.
Li said: “I’ve never been to Mauritius, but I’ve heard that it’s one of the most beautiful golf destinations in the world. I’m really excited to experience the Mauritian hospitality and look forward to spending time at the Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita.”
Scott Hend and Jeev Milkha Singh, who have won eight and six Asian Tour titles respectively, and European Tour stars Nicolas Colsaerts and Thomas Levet are among other big names confirmed for the event, which last year was won by George Coetzee of South Africa.
Golfers will compete at the Ernie Els-designed course from 12-15 May with a lucrative prize fund of 1 million Euros up for grabs.
